Sunsetting the Association

Posted on October 10th, 2019 in Membership News | No Comments

Hello, fellow AHECTAn.

First, thank you for your support of AHECTA. Special thanks to those who attended the AHECTA 2019 conference, especially our presenters and our corporate partners whose sponsorships made the conference happen: AMT, Apogee, Blonder Tongue, CheddarU, Spectrum, Swank Motion Pictures, and XFINITY. We had great sessions, conversations, and learning opportunities. The dedication and engagement so evident within this association make it that much more difficult to share the following announcement.

After healthy deliberations over the last year, your AHECTA Board of Directors is recommending a graceful sunsetting of the association.

What does sunsetting the association mean for our members?

  • We will keep the Google Group open for information sharing and discussion. We will be inviting previous AHECTA members to return, as well as institutions from our prospective list. Additionally, we encourage you to invite your colleagues at other institutions to join the AHECTA Google Group.
  • We will keep the AHECTA name and website domain at least through the end of 2020.
  • We will not collect association membership dues in 2020.
    • The collection of dues necessitates keeping a paid CPA on duty, to process legal and financial transactions that come with collecting dues, such as reporting taxes.
  • There will be no 2020 AHECTA Conference.

What’s next?

For the sake of logistics, and with consensus from the membership, we’d like to keep the current organizational leadership in place through our sunsetting operations. Over the next 3 months or so, your AHECTA Board will share a more detailed plan for what’s going to happen with the association as a brand through 2020. As always, we welcome and encourage your input! What AHECTA will look like after 2020 depends on you.

I encourage you not to be sad about this change. AHECTA has seen and been through a lot in 22 years! And, we’re not just shutting down at 11:59pm on December 31, 2019. We want you to keep talking, keep sharing, keep learning from and teaching each other.

Please contact me or your favorite AHECTA Board member if you would like to have a one-on-one discussion, or if you would like to get involved in the new phase of AHECTA.

With much sincerity, and on behalf of my fellow Board members, thank you.

-Mayumi Hirtzel, AHECTA President
